The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his claims of an alleged state-sponsored plot to incite violence ahead of the Mbeere North by-election.
In a strongly worded response, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar dismissed Gachagua’s letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja—which demanded the arrest of certain UDA supporters—as a sign of panic and political theatrics.

Omar accused the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader of using “dramatization and sympathy-seeking” tactics to gain attention during the campaigns.
“Contrary to your wild suspicions, the peace-loving people of Mbeere North have no intention of harming you. Their focus remains on development and the transformative agenda driven by this administration,” Omar stated.
He went on to describe Gachagua’s remarks as “a cynical ploy to raise a false alarm,” emphasizing that campaign activities in the constituency had been peaceful and orderly.
Gachagua had earlier raised alarm over a viral video in which unidentified individuals allegedly warned him against visiting the area from November 16, when he is set to campaign for DCP’s candidate Newton Karish.
In response, Omar dismissed the claims, saying the accusations and the names mentioned “only exist in Gachagua’s imagination.”

UDA also rebuked Gachagua for asking the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against its candidate, Leo Muthende, over the purported plot.
“We caution you against dragging Wamuthende into your melodramatic statements. UDA does not condone violence and has conducted its campaigns with absolute peace and respect,” Omar added.
Gachagua’s complaint was copied to the heads of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the IEBC chairperson, and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), among others.

In his letter dated November 12, 2025, Gachagua claimed that those behind the threats were known and accused authorities of inaction. He is expected to lead the United Opposition’s campaigns for Karish from November 16 to 24.
