President Ruto Extends Congratulations to Aga Khan V in Warm Phone Call

President Ruto has extended his congratulations to His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on his appointment as the 50th Imam of the Shia Ismaili Community.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ruto shared that he had a phone conversation with Prince Rahim, during which they discussed continuing collaboration in areas such as education, health, and the environment.

Ruto also expressed his condolences following the death of Prince Rahim’s father, His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV.

“I congratulated him on his ascension as the 50th Imam of the Shia Ismaili Community and committed to ongoing cooperation in education, health, and environmental efforts, among others,” Ruto said.

This follows Prince Rahim Aga Khan V officially taking office on Tuesday, succeeding his father, who passed away in Lisbon surrounded by his family. Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, passed away at 88.

Prince Rahim, 53, now known as Aga Khan V, is the eldest son of the late Prince Karim Aga Khan and his first wife, Princess Salimah.

In his inaugural speech on Tuesday, Prince Rahim paid tribute to his late father and expressed gratitude for his family’s support.

He vowed to devote his life to the spiritual and material well-being of the Ismaili Jamat.

Prince Rahim also discussed the principles of the Ismaili Muslim faith, stressing the need for a balance between the worldly and spiritual aspects of life, as well as the importance of regular faith practice.

His address emphasized universal values such as peace, tolerance, inclusion, and helping those in need.

Prince Rahim studied comparative literature at Brown University in the U.S. and has been involved in various boards within the Aga Khan Development Network, the spiritual leader’s main philanthropic organization.
