Investigators believe the body may have been dumped at a different location before being carried downstream to where it was found.
The discovery was reported on Wednesday, but the body was retrieved the following day due to poor visibility and the depth of the area. It was taken to a mortuary for identification and postmortem examination. Police say the motive behind the killing is still unclear.
In a separate incident in Macalder, Migori County, two gold miners died after the mining shaft they were working in collapsed. Two others sustained serious injuries. Authorities said the miners were underground when the shaft gave way, trapping them.

One of those who died was identified as a Tanzanian national. The bodies were taken to the mortuary as investigations continue.
The incident adds to a growing number of fatal accidents at mining sites across the country, with Kakamega, Siaya, West Pokot and Vihiga among the most affected areas. Officials say safety awareness campaigns are ongoing, though some miners resist the measures, citing mining as their main source of income. Several site managers are under investigation over past incidents.
Meanwhile, in the Holo area of Kisumu County, a woman who serves as treasurer of a self-help group reported a robbery in which Sh300,000 and other valuables were stolen from her home.
