A statement noted that President Suluhu thanked the Kenyan envoy for his efforts in promoting closer engagement between the two neighboring nations and wished him well as he prepares for his next assignment.
Kenya and Tanzania share long-established relations, working together in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, regional security and people-to-people exchanges.
Ambassador Njenga, who was appointed to the post in 2022 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, will now return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters. He will be succeeded by Ambassador Catherine Karemu, who has been transferred from her role as Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom following a diplomatic reshuffle announced by President William Ruto in August 2025.
Meanwhile, Ambassador George Orina is also concluding his tenure in Addis Ababa as part of the latest redeployments within Kenya’s foreign service. Orina has been serving as Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, where he played a key role in advancing Kenya’s regional and multilateral interests.

Youssouf highlighted Orina’s leadership of the Permanent Representatives Committee subcommittee on budgetary, financial and administrative matters, crediting him for shaping important discussions on financial oversight and institutional governance.
Ambassador Orina is set to take up a new posting in Dublin. He will be replaced in Addis Ababa by Galma Boru, a career diplomat returning from Jakarta, where he recently served as Kenya’s first ambassador to Indonesia.
