Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

County Accuses MPs of Plot to Tarnish Governor

The Kiambu County Government has accused several political leaders of orchestrating a coordinated social media campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

In a statement dated February 12, 2026, the Directorate of Communication in the Governor’s Office said it had observed what it described as a sustained and politically driven online attack targeting both the governor and the county administration.

The county linked the campaign to certain Members of Parliament and their online allies.

According to the statement, the content being circulated amounts to propaganda rather than genuine oversight or constructive criticism. The administration claimed that a small group of dissatisfied politicians was spreading misleading information in a bid to regain political relevance.

The county government alleged that photos and details shared online had been distorted to portray Kiambu’s health and emergency services negatively. It claimed that some images, including those purporting to show bodies in mortuaries and poorly maintained ambulances, were sourced from outside the county but presented as local incidents.

Describing the move as deliberate deception, the administration said the intent was to mislead the public and sway political opinion against Governor Wamatangi.

The Directorate of Communication urged critics to challenge the governor based on policy and performance rather than what it termed fabricated narratives. It maintained that the current administration’s development record speaks for itself and makes it difficult for opponents to mount a credible case.

Among the achievements highlighted were the construction of 512 Early Childhood Development Education centres and the introduction of a feeding programme benefiting 48,000 learners. The statement also cited the establishment of six Level IV hospitals, 26 Level III hospitals, and the installation of over 12,000 solar-powered streetlights.

Additional initiatives mentioned included the distribution of improved indigenous chicks to 120,000 women, piglets to more than 50,000 men, and farm inputs to over 600,000 farmers. The county also pointed to eight newly built bus parks, 16 new markets, and an increase in own-source revenue from Sh2.9 billion to Sh5.45 billion.

The administration argued that these achievements reflect meaningful progress under Governor Wamatangi’s leadership and demonstrate that electoral success can be anchored on performance rather than political theatrics.

The statement concluded by expressing confidence that residents can distinguish between political attacks and tangible service delivery, insisting that no amount of alleged propaganda would overshadow the county’s development record.
