Police in Suneka, Kisii County, have arrested a man who stormed a local church on Friday morning, causing destruction estimated at over Sh200,000 and injuring three security guards.

The suspect, who was reportedly armed with a metal bar, broke into the Suneka Catholic Parish Church by scaling the perimeter fence. Once inside, he vandalized property including 27 plastic chairs, two speakers from the church’s sound system, a flash door, and a window.
When the church guards attempted to intervene, the man turned violent and attacked them with the metal bar. One of the guards sustained serious injuries, including the loss of three teeth. All three injured guards were taken to hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Police responded to the scene, subdued the assailant, and arrested him. The suspect was also injured during the altercation and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have indicated that the suspect may be taken to a local psychiatric facility for evaluation as part of the ongoing inquiry.
