According to police, the killings brought the death toll in the area on the same day to four. The attackers targeted a manyatta belonging to members of the Wayu community for reasons yet to be established.

The attack, which occurred on May 19, heightened tensions in the region as authorities worked to prevent further violence. The deceased were identified as Bukuno Galgallo, 28, and Katello Guyo Galgallo, 25.

Police said no property was stolen during the assault, and suspect the killings may have been a retaliatory act linked to the earlier murder of two other men in Qorqa sub-location.

Despite efforts to track down the attackers, police were unable to make any arrests. The victims’ bodies were taken to a local mortuary for postmortem examinations and further procedures.

Violent clashes are not uncommon in the area, where communities frequently engage in conflict over access to water, grazing land, and livestock. These disputes often lead to cycles of revenge attacks.

In response, the government has launched initiatives to promote peace, including infrastructure development and road construction to improve accessibility.

Marsabit is one of the counties covered under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, a security operation launched in 2024 targeting illegal firearms and insecurity in parts of northern Kenya including Isiolo, Turkana, Meru, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, and West Pokot.

So far, authorities have recovered numerous illegal weapons and recruited additional national police reservists to support the security efforts. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is spearheading the campaign to restore peace in the region.
