Police officers who responded to the scene identified the deceased as Inspector John Aduol, 55, the OCS of Murang’a Railways Police Station. His body was found inside the church compound with a fresh cut wound on the forehead, believed to have been caused by a sharp object, with blood still oozing from the injury. Authorities have classified the case as a suspected murder.

The motive behind the incident remains unclear.

Preliminary findings indicate that Inspector Aduol had been granted leave from his station to seek specialized medical treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu, following a referral from Tasia Hill Hospital in Embakasi, Nairobi. He had reportedly been diagnosed with acute amoebiasis and septic wounds on his left leg.

Instead of proceeding directly to hospital, investigators say he travelled to his home area in Siala Kaduol before visiting God’s Last Appeal Church on June 13 for prayers. He is said to have requested permission from the pastor to stay within the church compound until June 20, when a crusade was scheduled in Rera village, after which he planned to return home.

According to the pastor, he left the officer at the church on the morning of June 16 alongside two church officials to attend a funeral in South Gem. When they returned around 5pm, they found Inspector Aduol lying unresponsive within the compound and immediately informed police.

Officers who arrived at the scene found the body lying on its left side. They reported no obvious signs of a struggle, although the deceased had sustained a minor forehead injury suspected to have resulted from a fall.

The scene was processed, and the body later moved to Yala Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A separate team has since revisited the scene as part of the probe, with officers also considering possible occult-related links among the working theories in the case.
