Ida Odinga Breaks Silence on Oburu’s Health

Ida Odinga, widow of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has assured Kenyans that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga is in good health and taking time off on medical advice.

Speaking on Thursday at Migwena Cultural Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County, during the first anniversary of Raila’s death, Ida said Oburu had asked her to tell the public that he was recuperating and needed their prayers for strength.

“Oburu is fine, and doctors told him to rest and stay away from a rowdy rally like this,” she said.

She urged the crowd to keep the day’s purpose in focus, noting that it had drawn Raila’s friends, relatives and supporters together.

“Today we came to remember Raila Odinga,” she said, hinting that some people may have turned up with other motives.

Ida described the memorial as a chance for those who knew and admired the former Prime Minister to unite and celebrate his life.

Raila died on October 15, 2025, aged 80, while receiving medical treatment in India.
