Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has reported an alleged attack on him at a restaurant in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, saying the incident was unprovoked.
In a statement released on Sunday, the legislator said the incident took place on Saturday afternoon along Lenana Road. He explained that he had gone to the restaurant for a meeting with a senior clergyman after releasing his security detail for the Christmas holidays.
According to Owino, the meeting lasted about 20 minutes and as he was leaving at around 3.40 pm, he noticed a group of people he knew seated at a nearby table and approached them to exchange greetings. He said a city MCA was among those present.
The MP claimed the MCA accused him of orchestrating social media attacks against the MCA’s wife, allegations Owino said he denied, insisting he neither knew her nor involved family members in political matters.
He said the confrontation escalated when the MCA allegedly became aggressive, pushed him, drew a firearm and struck him on the chest and jaw in the presence of other restaurant patrons. Owino said he asked the MCA to calm down and explain the cause of the confrontation.
According to the statement, the situation briefly de-escalated and the two sat down with another person between them. However, Owino alleged that moments later the MCA again became hostile and poured a glass of water on his face as a crowd gathered.

The MP said he then opted to leave the restaurant to avoid further confrontation and proceeded to Kilimani Police Station, where he recorded a statement. He described the incident as a serious attack and a threat to his life, calling on authorities to investigate and take appropriate legal action.
Owino further claimed the incident was part of a broader pattern of harassment and threats against him following the death of a senior political figure he referred to as “Baba,” citing a previous incident in Siaya during a burial.

He said leaders should set an example for society, adding that restraint should not be mistaken for fear.
Kilimani OCPD Patricia Yegon confirmed on Sunday that both the MP and the alleged assailant had reported the matter and that investigations were underway. She said officers were reviewing CCTV footage and recording statements as part of the inquiry.
