In a statement, the society described him as one of its most skilled and reliable water rescue volunteers, noting that he had dedicated more than 15 years to emergency response missions across the country.
The organisation highlighted that in 2025, Wangila was honoured with a Special Recognition Award during the Volunteer Awards ceremony in appreciation of his outstanding contribution to aqua rescue efforts nationwide.
Apart from participating in rescue operations, he also played a key role in strengthening the organisation’s emergency response by training and mentoring other volunteers in water rescue skills, helping build capable rescue teams.
Colleagues remembered him as a brave and professional responder who was always willing to step forward whenever help was needed.
The Kenya Red Cross extended heartfelt condolences to his wife, family, friends and fellow volunteers, saying they stand with them during the difficult period of mourning and honouring his life of service.
Founded in 1965 under the Kenya Red Cross Society Act, the organisation is officially recognised by the Kenyan government as a voluntary humanitarian aid society working alongside public authorities and remains the country’s only National Red Cross Society.
