Kibet embarked on the long journey to highlight the financial challenges that had kept him out of university, demonstrating his strong desire to become a teacher. His walk attracted widespread attention and admiration for his resilience.

In a statement, MKU said it would admit Kibet without conditions and offer him accommodation at the university hostels as he completes the remaining admission formalities.

The university described Kibet’s story as a powerful example of courage, perseverance, and the life-changing impact of education, calling on the public to support him as he begins his academic journey.

Despite completing his KCSE more than a decade ago, financial hardship had prevented him from joining university. Along the 250-kilometre journey, well-wishers offered him food, encouragement, and small donations amounting to Sh12,000.

What started as a personal effort to raise school fees grew into a national symbol of hope and determination.

Raised by a single mother, Kibet had earlier postponed his studies to help support his younger siblings, putting their education ahead of his own.

MKU’s decision marks a major turning point for Kibet after more than a decade of deferred dreams, reinforcing the message that persistence can open doors even after long setbacks.
