Portifas Odipo, popularly known as Majembe, emerged victorious in the Vurugu Championship, taking home a collection of prizes following his much-anticipated fight against Ferdinand Omondi, also known as Mbavu Destroyer, at Kasarani Indoor Arena on Saturday, April 4.
Along with the official championship belt, Majembe received KSh 1,000,000 in cash and a Toyota Noah courtesy of a betting company. He also won a Taro GP1 sport bike valued at KSh 385,000 and a free one-year gym membership.

Majembe sealed the win with a powerful strike below Omondi’s belt, knocking him to the canvas. After an assessment by the ringside medical team, Omondi indicated he could not continue, and the referee stopped the fight, awarding Majembe victory by Technical Knockout (TKO).
Reactions to the fight were mixed. Mbavu Destroyer posted a video of himself being wheeled away in a wheelchair, claiming the decisive blow was illegal.
“Siku hizi boxing imekuwa kupigana njwang’a…Haina noma. Mngenishow si boxing, pia mimi nivuke na balls. This is not boxing,” he wrote on Instagram.
President William Ruto congratulated Majembe on X, praising both fighters for an entertaining and close contest.
“This match has reignited the passion for boxing across the country. We commit to supporting the sport, investing in talent, and creating opportunities to grow boxing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Mosiria, head of customer services in Nairobi County, alleged that the event was orchestrated by media personality Oga Obinna to exclude him. Mosiria claimed he had arranged professional trainers for Mbavu Destroyer, including one from Dubai, and covered their training and accommodation costs. Oga Obinna denied the allegations.

The fight continues to trend on social media, with memes and jokes about Mbavu Destroyer’s loss going viral. On X, Junior Lebron James wrote, “Mbavu Destroyer has not accepted defeat. He says it was illegally won.” Another user, George Diano, joked, “Mbavu the Destroyer, who had been beating his chest like a malfunctioning drum, finally stepped into the ring only to get his software updated by force.”
