‘Our Leaders Have Disappointed Us’ — Muheria

Archbishop Anthony Muheria of the Nyeri Archdiocese has called on Kenyans to stay hopeful and make wise leadership choices, stressing that the nation’s challenges can still be overcome.

In his Easter Sunday message, he said the resurrection of Jesus is a powerful reminder that hope persists even in the toughest circumstances, offering encouragement to those facing financial struggles, illness, or emotional despair.

“Easter is about hope. When situations seem bleak, impossible, or crushing, Jesus rises,” Archbishop Muheria said.

He acknowledged widespread frustration with political leaders, admitting that many citizens feel let down.

“Even though our leadership has disappointed us and we’ve witnessed their lowest points, Easter reminds us that hope remains,” he said.

The Archbishop emphasized that positive change is possible, urging Kenyans to pray and take intentional steps toward guiding the country’s future.

“God can bring transformation. Leaders can change. We can pray and steer the nation in the right direction,” he added.

Referencing biblical figures like Caesar and Herod, Muheria highlighted that even powerful rulers do not prevail over divine purpose.

“They thought they had defeated Him, but He rose victorious. Similarly, corruption and adversity may seem overwhelming, but they can be overcome,” he said.

He warned against those seeking undue power, stressing that Easter symbolizes triumph over adversity.

“This day reminds us that Jesus conquers, even when people act as if God has been defeated,” he noted.

His remarks come amid escalating political tensions, with religious leaders urging politicians to adopt civility and avoid inflammatory rhetoric. Recently, opposition figures have criticized the government on economic and governance issues, prompting occasional public responses from the President defending his record.
