The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Lake Nakuru National Park, which spread from a nearby residential area and briefly threatened parts of the park’s protected ecosystem before being brought under control by a multi-agency response.
According to KWS, the fire started around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, with flames from Lake View Estate spreading into the park and affecting the Honeymoon Hill area.

The blaze was contained by 10:00 p.m. thanks to a coordinated effort involving KWS rangers, the City Fire Team, Bondeni Police, and local community members.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, and there have been no confirmed wildlife casualties.
KWS warned that dry weather, strong winds, and parched vegetation significantly raise the risk of wildfires.
“The public is urged to avoid lighting fires during the dry season, as strong winds and dry vegetation can make fires spread rapidly, endangering human life, wildlife, property, and the environment. Such incidents destroy habitats, reduce grazing areas, and can increase human–wildlife conflicts,” KWS stated.
