In a notice published in Tuesday’s My Gov, KUCCPS invited candidates who sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations between 2000 and 2024 to submit their applications.

Applicants are required to apply through the KUCCPS student portal at students.kuccps.ac.ke, with the application window set to close on January 27, 2026.

KUCCPS said the exercise is part of efforts to expand access to health-related training in response to the growing demand for qualified personnel in hospitals, public health facilities and community health services.

KMTC, the country’s largest health training institution with over 70 campuses, offers a wide range of certificate and diploma programmes in nursing, clinical medicine, laboratory sciences, nutrition, emergency care, public health and other specialised areas.

The updated programme catalogue lists more than 30 certificate and diploma courses, each with specific KCSE subject and grade requirements. KUCCPS cautioned applicants to confirm they meet the minimum cut-off grades before applying.

Among the certificate options is the Certificate in Community Health Assistant, which requires a minimum mean grade of C- and is offered at several campuses, including Nairobi, Embu, Kakamega, Lodwar, Kwale, Kangema, Nyahururu, Teso, Vihiga, Trans-Mara, Chemolingot, Mandera and Siaya-Ugunja.

The course prepares frontline community health workers to support disease prevention and primary healthcare services.

Candidates with a mean grade of D+ can apply for programmes such as the Certificate in Health Insurance Management, available in Nairobi, Bondo, Chwele, Nakuru, Rachuonyo and other campuses. This course focuses on health financing, insurance administration and claims management.

Other certificate courses on offer include Health Records and Information Technology, Medical Emergency Technician, Medical Engineering, Nutrition and Dietetics, Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine and Public Health, depending on campus availability.

Applications are also open for diploma programmes, which generally require a minimum mean grade of C. High-demand courses include the Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, offered in over 30 campuses such as Eldoret, Embu, Homa Bay, Kapkatet, Kilifi, Kisii, Loitokitok, Machakos, Mombasa, Nairobi, Nyeri, Thika and Voi.

Additional diploma programmes include Community Oral Health, Dental Technology, Emergency Medical Technology, Health Counselling, Health Insurance Management, Health Promotion, Public Health, Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, and Kenya Registered Nursing and Midwifery.

Specialised diploma courses in Medical Engineering, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Radiography and Imaging, Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine, Optometry, Occupational Therapy and Medical Laboratory Sciences are also available.

KMTC continues to expand training through satellite campuses within county hospitals, allowing students to gain hands-on clinical experience early in their studies.

KUCCPS advised applicants to log into the portal, carefully review course requirements and select programmes that match their KCSE grades and career goals.

The agency also noted that the eligibility window covers KCSE candidates from more than two decades, offering both recent school leavers and older candidates an opportunity to pursue health training.

With the January 27 deadline drawing closer, applicants were urged to apply early to avoid last-minute system congestion. Placement will be based on merit, available capacity and individual programme choices.

The exercise is expected to support government efforts to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare workforce, particularly in primary healthcare, emergency services and specialised clinical fields.
