Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka jetted back into the country on Friday morning, October 17, cutting short his 10-day official trip to the United Kingdom following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking to journalists at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Kalonzo said he was still struggling to come to terms with the passing of his longtime political partner, describing Raila’s death as a loss that “has yet to fully sink in.”

Kalonzo, who is expected to join thousands of mourners at Nyayo National Stadium for the State Funeral, was received by senior Wiper leaders, including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, Kitui Senator Enock Kiio Wambua, and Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo.
Before Raila’s death, Kalonzo had embarked on a 10-day mission to the UK aimed at strengthening partnerships with the Kenyan diaspora. His itinerary included addressing the London Political Summit and Awards at the UK Parliament, delivering a lecture at Oxford University, and holding talks at Chatham House and the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Kalonzo and Raila shared a long, eventful political journey marked by both alliance and rivalry. After parting ways in 2007 — when Raila led ODM and Kalonzo fronted ODM-Kenya — the two later reunited in 2013 under the CORD coalition and again in 2017 under NASA, both times contesting unsuccessfully against former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the 2022 General Election, Kalonzo initially hinted at running independently before throwing his support behind Raila under the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
