National carrier Kenya Airways has appointed businessman Kiprono Kittony as its new board chairman and independent non-executive director in a fresh shake-up of the airline’s leadership.
The airline also brought on board Chris Diaz, Prof. Winnie Iminza Nyamute, and Dr. David Ndii as non-executive directors. The appointments were announced through a notice issued by the airline in line with the Capital Markets Authority regulations on public companies.

According to the airline, the new appointments are aimed at strengthening governance and strategic leadership as the carrier continues implementing reforms to improve its financial performance and competitiveness in the global aviation sector.
In a statement released by Company Secretary Habil Waswani, the board, management and staff congratulated the new members and wished them success in their roles.
Kittony, who now assumes the chairmanship, is a prominent Kenyan business leader and currently serves as chairman of the Nairobi Securities Exchange. He is widely credited for revitalising the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has played leadership roles in several organisations including Creditinfo CRB Kenya, Mtech Limited, Betway Kenya, and Radio Africa Group.
He also serves as vice chairman of the World Chambers Federation in Paris, representing Africa, and advises the Amsterdam-based private equity fund IFHA. Kittony holds degrees in Commerce and Law from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Global Executive MBA from United States International University Africa and Columbia University. In 2019, he was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Also joining the board is marketing strategist Chris Diaz, who brings over 30 years of experience in business strategy, corporate leadership and integrated business solutions. Diaz currently chairs Adili Group and sits on the boards of ALN Africa and the Middle East and Bidco Africa. He has also held key roles in the aviation sector with Kenya Airways and the Kenya Airports Authority.
Finance and accounting scholar Prof. Winnie Iminza Nyamute joins as an independent non-executive director. An associate professor at the University of Nairobi, she has more than three decades of experience in academia and corporate governance and has served on several corporate boards including the Nairobi Securities Exchange, Sameer Africa Plc, and Family Bank Limited.
Economist Dr. David Ndii also joins the board as a non-executive director. He currently chairs the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, where he advises President William Ruto on economic policy. Ndii has over 30 years of experience in economic research and policy and previously served as chief economist at Equity Bank and as an economist at the World Bank.
Kenya Airways said the new board members bring extensive expertise in business leadership, finance, governance and economic policy that will help guide the airline’s strategy as it navigates a highly competitive global aviation market.
