Kihara: Gov’t Using DCI to Intimidate Us

Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara has accused the government of deliberately persecuting leaders loyal to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by slapping them with false charges aimed at muzzling dissent.

Kihara said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) fabricated allegations against her following her claims that youth were transported to Naivasha to cause chaos during the recent Saba Saba demonstrations.

She was arrested on July 17 at her home in Maraigushu for allegedly defying a DCI summons over her statements.

While addressing supporters in Naivasha on Saturday evening, the second-term MP maintained that she would not be cowed by what she termed as politically motivated intimidation. She argued that allies of Gachagua were being unfairly accused of fueling unrest.

Kihara appeared before a Nairobi court on July 18, where she was charged with making remarks likely to breach public peace. She was released on a Ksh.50,000 bond.

The legislator further claimed that President William Ruto used Gachagua’s political weight to win the presidency, only to later work toward sidelining him, even pushing for his impeachment.

She also disclosed that she had been removed from key parliamentary committees due to her stand against efforts to isolate Gachagua politically.

Kihara criticized certain politicians for peddling lies and urged the government to shift focus toward creating lasting job opportunities for the youth through industrial development.
