Kenya Airways (KQ) has returned the second of its three narrow-body Embraer aircraft to scheduled commercial service, completing a crucial maintenance phase just in time for the busy festive season.
The phased reintroduction, supported by a partnership with the State Department for Aviation to streamline spare-parts logistics, aims to stabilise flight schedules, boost passenger confidence, and enhance operational reliability across the regional network.

Speaking at a flag-off event at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Acting Group Managing Director and CEO Captain George Kamal described the move as a significant operational milestone.
“With the first aircraft returning on December 18 and the final one expected before year-end, we are building the consistency needed to start the new year as a stronger and more dependable airline,” he said.
The restoration followed close coordination between the airline and government stakeholders, focusing on operational support rather than direct financial aid. Efforts have targeted resolving logistical challenges and ensuring smoother access to maintenance resources to improve fleet availability.
