IGAD Urges Dialogue and Ceasefire in Sudan

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Heads of State meeting, including President William Ruto, convened the 42nd IGAD Extraordinary Summit in Entebbe, calling on warring parties in Sudan to agree to a ceasefire, end the war, and engage in face-to-face dialogue between the two Generals.

The Summit, attended by regional leaders and dignitaries, affirmed the territorial integrity of Somalia, emphasizing that any agreements should be signed with Somalia. Sudan had suspended its involvement in IGAD-mediated peace talks on Tuesday, leading to the African Union’s appointment of a high-level panel for conflict resolution in Sudan on Wednesday.

The panel, chaired by AU High Representative Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, aims to work with Sudanese stakeholders for an inclusive process and restoration of peace, constitutional order, and stability in Sudan. Since the war’s outbreak in April, approximately 7.5 million people have been displaced.
