Hassan Mugambi Leaves Citizen TV for Government Role

Hassan Mugambi, a journalist at Citizen TV, is slated to leave Royal Media Services (RMS) to assume a position at the Ministry of Defence.

As per an anonymous source speaking to a local media, the investigative journalist is currently in the process of serving notice before his departure.

Mugambi will step into the shoes of the long-standing Director of Communications at the ministry, Bogita Ongeri, who has retired upon reaching the mandatory age.

Following his departure from Citizen TV, Mugambi will take on the role of communication adviser at Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale’s office.

There are reports indicating that Mugambi has been accompanying Duale on various trips, including a recent one to the United States of America (USA).

Confirming the move, the investigative journalist expressed that change brings rejuvenation. “Change is revitalizing. We’re in the process of changing,” he remarked.

Mugambi joined RMS in 2015 after working as a news anchor at K24, under the ownership of Mediamax Network Limited.

During his tenure at Citizen TV, he progressed from being a reporter to a Swahili news anchor, hosting programs such as Sema na Citizen alongside Lulu Hassan on Fridays.

Among the departures from the station is senior political reporter Chemutai Goin, who described her exit from RMS as a mix of emotions.

In a video shared by The Star, Goin, speaking at a farewell event organized by colleagues, expressed her gratitude for the opportunities at the station, particularly in her role as a political reporter.

She emphasized her intention to maintain her standards as she embarks on new endeavors. “Leaving is both bitter and sweet because this is where I found my wings and soared, and I aim to continue soaring even as I venture into new opportunities,” she remarked.

Goin is reportedly set to take on a new role at the National Assembly of Kenya.

Other notable journalists who have bid farewell to the station include Sam Ogina, Raquel Mungai, and Francis Gachuri.
