The Ministry of Health made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that the decision was based on “credible concerns” from both the government and the public regarding the hospital’s adherence to ethical standards.

The suspension is attributed to ethical issues in the hospital’s conduct of transplant procedures, although no further details were provided about the nature of the concerns. The Ministry did not specify how long the suspension will last, stating it is in place “until further notice.”

This action is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen oversight in the medical sector, particularly in transplant services, and ensure professional standards are upheld. Mediheal Group is one of the few private hospitals in Kenya offering transplant services.

Patients affected by the suspension will be redirected to other licensed transplant facilities in the country.

The Ministry advised those seeking transplant services to visit any of the following eight licensed facilities: Kenyatta National Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, M.P. Shah Hospital, Nairobi Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital-Eldoret, Nairobi West Hospital, and Mater Hospital.
