Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on the government to persist in its efforts to combat the abuse of illicit alcohol and drugs among the youth, a cause he has championed for the past two years during his time in office.

Speaking at a church service in Kahawa West, Nairobi County, Gachagua stressed that these destructive vices threaten the future of young people, who are the nation’s potential leaders.
“I urge the government, even though I am no longer in office, to continue the work my wife and I started in saving the youth from the dangers of illicit brews and drugs,” Gachagua said.
His wife, Dorcas Rigathi, supported his appeal, highlighting their success in helping 1,200 young people access rehabilitation services, with ongoing efforts to assist more.
“I will keep advocating for the welfare of the boy child, even after I leave office, because without them, we have no country,” Dorcas Rigathi stated.

During his tenure, Gachagua was a strong advocate against illicit alcohol, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region.
On the topic of his impeachment, the former Deputy President noted that the people of Mt. Kenya hold no grudges but instead wish for national peace to ensure economic stability. “If you cannot contain yourself, express your feelings through music and dance. We bear no ill will towards anyone; that’s simply who we are,” Gachagua said.
