Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated that he bears no ill will toward anyone, including his political opponents, following his impeachment from office.
Speaking at a church service in Kahawa West, Nairobi County, on Sunday, Gachagua called on Kenyans to maintain peace despite the recent political turmoil surrounding his ousting as Deputy President.
“Express yourselves through music and dance; that’s who we are as a people. I want to emphasize that we have no grudges against anyone. What we desire is a peaceful nation,” Gachagua said.
He also hinted at ongoing discussions with various groups, including religious leaders, professionals, and businesspeople. Gachagua assured the public that he would share the results of these talks at the appropriate time.
“I’m in discussions with the clergy, including bishops and pastors, as well as professionals and businesspeople. These talks are progressing well. In due course, we will inform you of the outcomes so we can plan effectively,” he explained.
Gachagua urged religious leaders to continue praying for peace in the country, expressing confidence that things would improve over time.
“Our situation should not be rushed like a stolen bicycle. Even churches have expressed some confusion. Continue with the talks to avoid further complications. Many are asking questions, but I urge you to keep praying for the nation and for us as well,” he added.
The former Deputy President had previously stated that he held no animosity toward President William Ruto and encouraged him to use the remaining time in office to fulfill his promises to the Kenyan people.
“We have no issue with the president. We are giving him the opportunity to deliver on his commitments over the next three years,” Gachagua said during a funeral service in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
He emphasized that every leader deserves the time and space to implement the plans they promised during their campaigns.
Gachagua’s impeachment by the National Assembly was upheld by the Senate, making it a historic moment in the country’s political landscape.
Following the impeachment, Professor Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as the new Deputy President in a colorful ceremony at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Friday, November 1, 2024.
