From Dropout to Legislator: Salasya’s Unconventional Journey to Mumia East MP

Salasya recounted his journey to becoming the Mumia East MP, highlighting his challenges and innovative approach to campaigning.

Despite lacking campaign funds, he utilized social media extensively, which played a crucial role in his success.

Speaking in an interview with TV47, the outspoken politician emphasized that he relied on social media as a primary tool to connect with his constituents and garner support.

He acknowledged the disparity in resources compared to his well-funded opponents but remained undeterred, utilizing platforms like blogging to promote his candidacy.

Salasya shared insights into his unconventional path, revealing that he dropped out of school in class three but later resumed his education after a hiatus.

He attributed his initial disinterest in education to his upbringing in a rural village, where the allure of quick money from factory jobs overshadowed the value of schooling.

After returning to studies and completing his education, including a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Egerton University, Salasya ventured into various endeavors, including working as a bicycle hawker.

Despite a humble start, he ventured into politics, initially experiencing defeat in the 2017 elections before ultimately clinching victory in 2022.
