Gor Mahia took a significant step towards clinching the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Shabana FC at Mamboleo Grounds Stadium in Kisumu.
Benson Omalla, the striker, scored the solitary goal in the 34th minute of the first half, securing the win for his team.
The second half saw little action of note, with Shabana tightening their defense to avoid further goals while attempting to press forward for opportunities.
This win extends K’Ogalo’s lead at the summit of the KPL table to 63 points, a comfortable 12 points ahead of second-placed Police FC.
However, Shabana’s loss places them in a precarious position in the standings, tied with Sofapka on 28 points, just above the relegation zone.
Omalla’s goal takes his season tally to 13, putting him level with Police FC’s Tito Okello in the race for the golden boot, with only five matches remaining.
Elsewhere, Kariobangi Sharks secured a resounding 5-2 victory over Sofapaka, maintaining their 10th position in the league, while Sofapaka remains in danger of relegation.
In other matches, Ulinzi Stars settled for a goalless draw against Muhoroni Youth, while KCB also drew 1-1 with Nzoia Sugar, with both teams maintaining their respective positions on the league table.
