EU Boosts Justice Delivery By Donating 12 Vehicles

The European Union, in collaboration with the National Legal Aid Service (NLAS), has provided 12 vehicles to improve the delivery and accessibility of justice nationwide. This initiative, part of the Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery (PLEAD) program launched in 2020, aims to address issues surrounding access to justice.

During the launch event, Attorney General Justin Muturi expressed gratitude for the EU’s support in ensuring public access to social justice in Kenya, emphasizing the constitutional framework designed to support marginalized and vulnerable groups.

Muturi highlighted the EU’s contribution to improving public service accessibility through vehicle donations to various counties, benefiting areas such as Wajir, Mandera, Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Marsabit, Isiolo, Kisumu, Nairobi, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, and Nakuru. He noted NLAS’s efforts to expand services to all 47 counties.

The AG reiterated NLAS and the EU’s commitment to facilitating access to justice for marginalized communities, promoting awareness in the process.

EU Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger, disclosed that the EU has invested 70 million euros in this program, marking it as the largest EU investment in justice sector reform in Sub-Saharan Africa.
