Kenyatta University has halted all classes for a three-day period to grieve the loss of 11 students involved in a tragic road accident in Voi.
The deputy vice chancellor for academics made the announcement in a memo dated March 19, 2024, expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
Additionally, the university has established a help desk and a dedicated phone number to provide support during this difficult time.
Out of the 42 injured students, 11 are in critical condition and are being transferred to Nairobi for specialized treatment. Kenyatta University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Paul Wainaina, visited the survivors in Voi and extended condolences to the affected families on behalf of the university.
Furthermore, Taita Taveta governor Andrew Mwadime has declared that the county government will waive the medical expenses for all Kenyatta University accident survivors.
