Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Cabinet Secretary, Soipan Tuya, has called upon Community Forests Associations (CFAs) and the wider Kenyan populace to actively engage in the planting of fruit tree seedlings.
This initiative aims not only to foster a greener landscape but also to bolster food security across the nation.
In her address at Majani area within Lariak Forest, Laikipia County, during the commemoration of this year’s International Day of Forests themed “Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World,” Tuya emphasized the importance of adopting innovative strategies to enhance forest cover.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts in environmental conservation, she stressed the necessity of ensuring that newly planted trees reach maturity.
Tuya urged communities to undertake tree planting in manageable quantities, enabling them to effectively monitor and nurture the seedlings to adulthood before initiating further planting endeavors.
Emphasizing the role of innovation, she highlighted Kenya’s commitment to employing modern methodologies to bolster forest protection while simultaneously addressing community needs.
