Babu Owino Backs Kalonzo for 2027 Presidency

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has thrown his weight behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, endorsing him as the ideal opposition candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

Speaking on Monday at the Wiper headquarters in Karen, the outspoken legislator lauded Kalonzo for holding the opposition together, arguing that he is best placed to unseat President William Ruto in the next General Election.

Babu, who has recently distanced himself from ODM’s decision to support the broad-based government, said the upcoming election will mirror global and local political moments where citizens voted out incumbents.

He compared the mood in Kenya to the United States in 2020, when voters turned against Donald Trump, and Kenya in 2002, when opposition forces united to topple the KANU regime.

“In 2027, it won’t be about voting in a new leader, but about voting out UDA. Kalonzo is the right person to carry that mantle,” Babu said, challenging those who question Kalonzo’s suitability.

The MP also praised Kalonzo’s loyalty to Azimio leader Raila Odinga in the last election, saying he campaigned tirelessly despite not being named running mate. He urged young people to register as voters, stressing that their participation will be crucial in reshaping the country’s leadership.

On his part, Kalonzo rallied the youth to take charge of their future through the ballot, noting that their numbers and patriotism could decisively influence the 2027 outcome.

“This country’s youth are yearning for change and are beyond tribal politics. The only way to make that change is by registering and voting,” the former Vice President said.

Kalonzo also extended an open invitation to Babu Owino to join the Wiper Party, hinting at possible cracks between the legislator and the ODM leadership.

“If ODM and the wider Azimio coalition no longer align with your vision, Babu, Wiper is ready to welcome you,” Kalonzo declared.

The Wiper leader reiterated his pledge to review contentious Kenya Kwanza policies if elected, beginning with the Housing Levy and the Social Health Authority (SHA).
