IEBC Begins Continuous Voter Registration Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on September 29, 2025 rolled out the continuous voter registration exercise as part of preparations for the 2027 General Election.

The exercise was officially launched in Kajiado County and will be extended to all other counties. Voter registration had last been halted in June 2022 ahead of the August 2022 elections.

The commission is targeting 6.3 million new voters, including Kenyans who have recently turned 18, those yet to register, and individuals seeking to transfer their voting details to new polling stations.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s DayBreak show, IEBC Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana said eligible voters must present either a national ID card or a valid Kenyan passport when registering at IEBC constituency offices and Huduma Centres across the country.

“This launch marks the beginning of continuous voter registration. From today, every one of the 290 constituencies has an open IEBC office where Kenyans can register,” Mukhwana said.
