Raila Odinga Meets KMPDU Officials Following Doctors’ Strike Resolution

Raila Odinga convened with representatives from the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) shortly after the doctors terminated their strike.

Raila, expressing solidarity with the union, emphasized the importance of the return-to-work agreement for both the government and KMPDU, encouraging a collaborative effort to resolve lingering concerns.

Following the KMPDU’s decision to end the 56-day strike and the subsequent signing of the return-to-work formula on May 8, Raila acknowledged the achievement while lamenting the unnecessary strain placed on the public during the standoff.

He urged both parties to uphold their commitments, emphasizing the government’s responsibility to honor agreements and the healthcare workers’ obligation to reciprocate.

Raila underscored his readiness to hold the involved parties accountable should they deviate from the agreed terms. Meanwhile, KMPDU’s secretary general, Davji Atellah, confirmed the strike’s cessation, expressing cautious optimism regarding the government’s assurances.
