By: Nicholas Wambua

Interior Security Cabinet Secretary, CS Kithure Kindiki, undertook an extensive security evaluation in Kitui County, focusing on issues such as illegal substances and tensions between communities.

The campaign against illicit substances resulted in numerous arrests and closures of illegal alcohol vendors.

Moreover, efforts are being made to resolve conflicts between Kitui’s farming community and nomadic herders from Tana River, with an emphasis on implementing peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms.

The government is holding security agency commanders personally responsible for any breaches within their areas of jurisdiction, stressing the importance of taking reasonable measures to prevent or mitigate such breaches. County Security Teams have been instructed to implement tangible Security Management Plans.

On Friday, CS Kithure Kindiki conducted a situational assessment in Kitui Town to tackle security challenges.

Nationally, 258 suspects have been apprehended in the crackdown on illicit alcohol and drugs, 405 illegal alcohol outlets have been shut down, 15 kilograms of marijuana have been seized, and 22 pharmacies and 19 agrovets operating unlawfully have been closed.
