The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) has strongly denounced an incident wherein a driver assaulted a police officer in Kasarani.
According to Ipoa chairperson Anne Makori, the officer, Corporal Jacob Ogendo, was assaulted while on traffic duty along Kamiti Road. Makori emphasized that all involved suspects are currently in police custody.
Expressing serious concern over the attack, Makori highlighted how such actions obstruct the delivery of security services and undermine the rule of law. She further noted that such lawlessness disrupts the public’s right to quality policing services as enshrined in the constitution.
Encouraging Kenyans to report grievances against police through the toll-free number 1559 rather than resorting to violence, Makori stressed the importance of addressing issues through proper channels.
Death of a Minor
Additionally, she mentioned that Ipoa has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a minor while in police custody at Kambuu Police Station in Makueni County.
Makori stated that Ipoa officers have visited the scene and interviewed witnesses to uncover the circumstances surrounding the minor’s death. She affirmed that upon completion of the investigation, if criminal culpability is established, Ipoa will recommend prosecution.
The child was reportedly at the station with his mother, Zipporah Mutheu, who was detained at the time.
