Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili Leads Residents in Observing International Forests Day

Makueni’s Deputy Governor, H.E Lucy Mulili, spearheaded the observance of International Forests Day alongside residents at Makongo Forest in Kaiti Sub-county on Thursday.

Mulili highlighted Makueni’s commitment to environmental conservation by unveiling the Forest and Landscape Restoration Plan (FOLAREP), a decade-long initiative aimed at rejuvenating 100,000 hectares of degraded landscapes. The plan prioritizes the enhancement of ecosystem services and bolstering climate resilience.

Additionally, the county has introduced a forestry bill designed to foster sustainable forest management, conservation, and landscape restoration.

Emphasizing community involvement, stakeholder engagement, and the incorporation of traditional knowledge, the bill underscores Makueni’s dedication to holistic forestry practices.
