Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has described the upcoming Mumbuni Ward by-election in Machakos County as a crucial test for his 2027 presidential ambitions.
Speaking to residents through Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s phone on Thursday, Kalonzo urged voters to support Wiper candidate Anthony Kisoi in the November 27, 2025, poll, saying the victory would demonstrate his ability to unite the Kamba voting bloc ahead of the national race.

“I urge you to vote for the Wiper candidate. If we fail to win an MCA seat, people will question how we can lead the entire country,” Kalonzo said.
He rallied residents to turn out in large numbers, promising to personally celebrate with them if Wiper clinches the seat.
“If you deliver this victory, I’ll come and slaughter a bull here,” he said.
Kalonzo also directed all Wiper-elected leaders—governors, MPs, and MCAs—to actively campaign for Kisoi, emphasizing party unity.
Governor Ndeti reaffirmed her loyalty to Kalonzo, calling him the undisputed leader of the Kamba community. She urged residents to back Kisoi, whom she described as young, energetic, and compassionate toward women and children.
“Our kingpin has spoken. Let’s vote for Kisoi,” she said.
The Wiper Party has framed the by-election as a show of strength and a political statement for Kalonzo as the 2027 presidential race gains momentum. Ndeti called the poll a “defining moment” for the Wiper leader, urging the community to “send a strong message of confidence” in his national aspirations.
Her deputy, Francis Mwangangi, said the race was shaping into a direct contest between Wiper and Maendeleo Chap Chap, symbolizing Kalonzo’s broader political struggle against rival forces.

Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, and MPs Thaddeus Nzambia and Bony Mwalika echoed similar sentiments, calling the by-election a critical test for Kalonzo’s political base.
“This seat is not just for Kisoi—it’s for Wiper, and we must win it,” Kavindu said.
Leaders from outside Ukambani, including Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, also attended the rally. Thang’wa said he had been sent by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who asked locals not to “embarrass Kalonzo” in his political backyard.

The Mumbuni North seat fell vacant following the death of former MCA Gideon Kavuu of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party. Wiper’s Kisoi will face Harrison Wambua (Maendeleo Chap Chap), Misi Mutua (UDA), and Mutisya wa Ngai (National Liberation Party) in what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
