Speaking at a women empowerment event in Kanduyi, Bungoma County, Wetang’ula commended the Kenya Kwanza government for reviving stalled infrastructure projects and ensuring fair distribution of resources. He emphasized the importance of standing with the President in appreciation of his inclusive leadership.

“President Ruto has demonstrated fairness in development. He’s revived critical projects like roads and introduced new initiatives that directly benefit this region,” Wetang’ula said.

He highlighted key achievements in Bungoma under Ruto’s tenure, including the opening of a passport centre, ongoing construction of Masinde Muliro International Stadium, and the upgrading of Kisiwa and Sang’alo polytechnics to national institutions.

He also revealed that the Bungoma County Referral Hospital is set for elevation to a Level Six facility, backed by Sh8 billion in funding from the African Development Bank.

On agriculture, Wetang’ula defended the planned leasing of Nzoia Sugar Factory, saying it would ensure prompt payments for sugarcane farmers. He accused unnamed leaders of politicizing the sector’s challenges for personal gain.

“These leaders are using the sugar sector crisis to revive their declining political relevance,” he said.

He attributed improved maize yields to the government’s subsidized fertilizer programme, noting production had surged from 35 million bags in 2024 to a projected 185 million this year.

Wetang’ula further announced a government allocation of Sh450 million to begin construction on the Limuru-Malaba dual carriageway, a project expected to ease transport and boost trade along the western corridor.

He also dismissed recent remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who discouraged diaspora remittances. Wetang’ula said such contributions are vital to Kenya’s economy and directly support families.

“No one sends money to the government — Kenyans abroad support their families. That money, nearly Sh400 billion, is key to maintaining our forex reserves,” he stated, urging diaspora communities to disregard such calls.

Wetang’ula called for patience and unity, encouraging Kenyans to give President Ruto more time to deliver on his development promises.
