The visit is seen as part of a calculated strategy to rally political backing and extend the opposition’s reach nationwide.

Gachagua’s arrival at Kisumu International Airport on Wednesday marked the beginning of a series of high-profile rallies, described by organizers as part of a broader “liberation movement.”

The initiative, led by prominent opposition figures, seeks to tap into growing public frustration over governance challenges and economic hardships.

The planned tour will see Gachagua and his allies traverse various towns across Vihiga and Kakamega counties.

On Thursday, the delegation is expected to hold rallies in Luanda and Mbale in Vihiga, before making stops in Malava, Mumias, and Kakamega town.

Among those accompanying Gachagua are senior opposition leaders including Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa (Defence), Fred Matiang’i (Interior), and Justin Muturi (Public Service).

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and ex-Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala are also part of the team.

The opposition has intensified grassroots mobilization in recent weeks, signaling renewed efforts to counter the Kenya Kwanza administration’s political dominance.

Gachagua, a vocal critic of the current government, has already held rallies across regions such as Meru, Laikipia, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi. Their latest stop was Narok County, reflecting the opposition’s push to position itself as a credible national alternative.

His Kisumu visit not only serves as a charm offensive but also represents a deliberate strategy to reposition the opposition in anticipation of upcoming political shifts.
