The two opposition figures kicked off a two-day whirlwind campaign on Friday with a series of roadside rallies across the Ukambani region en route to the Coast. They were joined by key political allies, including former Cabinet Secretary and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, CS Mithika Linturi, Senators Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Karungo Thang’wa (Kiambu), Dan Maanzo (Makueni), Jubilee Party Chairman Saitoti Njoroge, and Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.

On Friday, the campaign convoy made stops in Malili, Sultan Hamud, Emali, Makindu, Kibwezi, and Machinery.

Today’s itinerary includes stops in Voi, Maungu, Mariakani, and Mazeras, culminating in a major rally in Kisauni.

This marks the duo’s first joint campaign foray into the Coast—a region historically allied with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Raila’s recent cooperation pact with President William Ruto has altered the political landscape, prompting opposition leaders to court the coastal vote.

Speaking at various points along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Friday, Kalonzo and Gachagua launched a fierce political offensive, vowing to unseat President Ruto in the 2027 general election.

The former rivals have now united under a common agenda they described as the start of a national movement aimed at toppling the Kenya Kwanza regime.

They accused Ruto’s administration of economic mismanagement and overburdening salaried Kenyans with punitive taxes.

“We are here to begin the journey of making Ruto a one-term president,” Gachagua declared in Malili.

Kalonzo added, “We are committed to creating real change through a people-driven movement.”

The leaders announced plans to rally behind a single presidential candidate in 2027 and pledged to deploy trained agents across all polling stations to guard against electoral malpractice.

“Even if they pack the IEBC with loyalists, we will defeat them with facts on the ground. Our agents will transmit results instantly,” Kalonzo said.

He also vowed to undo contentious Ruto-era policies, promising that the opposition’s first Executive Order would abolish the housing levy.

The leaders concluded that this tour is just the beginning of a high-stakes campaign to bring about political transformation by 2027.
