The race for the Kajiado County Woman Representative seat ahead of the 2027 General Election has officially gained a dynamic new force. Mercy Masai, born Mercy Nashipai Legilisho, has formally transitioned from digital storytelling and grassroots activism into mainstream politics, shaking up the local leadership landscape.
Running under the banner of “Hope In Action,” the 28-year-old psychologist, author, and philanthropist announced her candidacy in May 2026. Her entry brings a fresh, youth-centric energy to a traditional political arena, bridging the gap between social media influence and community development.
Rooted in Culture, Driven by Change
Born in April 1998 in Loitokitok, Masai has always worn her Maasai heritage as a badge of honor. While many know her for her large digital footprint, her academic background is in counseling psychology—a discipline that heavily informs her approach to leadership.
Her lived experiences in Kajiado inspired her book, The Nomadic Girl, which chronicles her journey and the unique cultural trials faced by young women in pastoralist communities. Rather than watching from the sidelines, Masai used her platform to found the Mercy Mission Foundation. The organization actively combats Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), champions girls’ education, and supports orphaned children across the county.
Beyond her foundation, Masai’s leadership acumen extended to sports administration, where she serves as the Communications Director for the Kenya Judo Federation.

The “Hope In Action” Agenda
Masai’s political platform is built on tangible socio-economic reforms. Key pillars of her 2027 campaign include:
Empowering Women and Youth: Expanding economic opportunities through financial literacy and micro-funding.
Healthcare Access: Improving maternal healthcare and mental health services at the grassroots level.
Educational Equity: Eradicating harmful cultural practices like early marriage to keep young girls in school.

“True leadership is not about titles; it is about service,” Masai stated during her campaign launch. “Our campaign is about turning hope into actionable development for every resident of Kajiado.”
Navigating the Limelight
Masai is no stranger to the public eye. In late 2025, she dominated online conversations across Kenya following viral social media posts alongside Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi. While the internet buzzed with relationship rumors, Masai deftly channeled the sudden media spotlight to amplify her Mercy Masai.community work and, ultimately, launch her political bid.
As the 2027 campaign season begins to heat up, Mercy Masai represents a new generation of Kenyan leaders: digitally savvy, culturally rooted, and intensely focused on social reform. Whether her massive online following will translate into votes remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—she has fundamentally changed the conversation in Kajiado.
