The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) brought its post-election celebrations to Parliament on Tuesday as senators allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrived at the Senate in coordinated party attire.
Murang’a Senator Joseph Nyutu, Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua Nderitu and Kajiado Senator Kanar Seki appeared in matching bright green blazers, white shirts and dusty rose ties, creating a striking display of party unity.

The lawmakers walked together across Parliament grounds, with some acknowledging colleagues and supporters by raising an index finger, a gesture often associated with victory and solidarity.
Their coordinated appearance came just days after DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru secured a decisive victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, a result the party has continued to celebrate as a sign of growing political support.
Inside the Senate chamber, the senators’ arrival briefly drew attention away from the day’s proceedings as some legislators responded by stamping their feet in approval.
The reaction interrupted debate, prompting Tharaka Nithi Senator Mwenda Gataya, who was addressing the House at the time, to ask the Speaker to shield him from the interruptions, drawing laughter from members before proceedings resumed.
The coordinated dressing reflected the celebratory mood within DCP following the Ol Kalou by-election victory and showcased the party’s official colours in one of its most visible appearances inside Parliament since its formation.

Political parties have often used coordinated attire to demonstrate unity, particularly after significant electoral victories or ahead of major political events.
DCP leaders have described the Ol Kalou outcome as more than a by-election win, saying it signals growing political momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at a party gathering in Ol Kalou after the victory, Rigathi Gachagua defended the celebrations, saying the result represented a major political milestone for the Mt Kenya region.
He said the victory had sent a broader political message and dismissed criticism that the party was celebrating excessively.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat was won by DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, who garnered 35,440 votes, defeating UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who received 5,450 votes, giving DCP a winning margin of 29,990 votes.
Tuesday’s coordinated appearance in Parliament reinforced the party’s efforts to project unity and maintain the momentum generated by the Ol Kalou by-election as attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 General Election.
