Kenyans raised Sh519,144 for the Linda Mwananchi initiative on Monday after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna appealed to members of the public to support the movement through small donations.
Figures released by the organisers on July 21, 2026, showed that 9,419 people had contributed by the end of the fundraising exercise.
The campaign recorded an average contribution of Sh55, with the highest single donation amounting to Sh5,000, while the lowest contribution was Sh1.

According to the organisers, donations were received between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., a period of approximately ten and a half hours.
The initiative uses a M-Pesa Paybill number with contributors instructed to use their mobile phone numbers as the account reference.
Earlier on Monday, Sifuna launched the paybill and encouraged Kenyans to contribute Sh10 each to help finance the movement’s activities and operational expenses.
He dismissed claims that the initiative is funded by wealthy individuals, saying critics should be consistent in their allegations.
Sifuna explained that because Linda Mwananchi has not yet been registered as a political party, the paybill account is registered under his personal name.
He assured supporters that all funds collected would be publicly accounted for, including details of how the money is spent.
According to the senator, the contributions help cover operational costs such as paying service providers, meeting logistical expenses during rallies and supporting other activities undertaken by the movement.
He cited previous instances where the funds had been used to facilitate campaign logistics, compensate service providers and assist families affected during the movement’s events.
Sifuna maintained that the fundraising drive is intended solely to sustain the initiative’s operations and not for personal enrichment, emphasizing that the movement seeks only enough resources to support its activities across the country.
