Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, popularly known as Babu Owino, was among 609 individuals officially admitted to the Roll of Advocates on May 23, 2025.
The lawmaker described the day as a major milestone in his life journey.
“Today is a historic moment for me as I join the bar as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya,” he said.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Supreme Court of Kenya and was officiated by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
“Congratulations to the new advocates being sworn in today! Best wishes to your families and mentors. Find your friend or relative on the list and celebrate their achievement,” the Judiciary said in a statement.
Babu Owino, who initially graduated with a degree in Actuarial Science, later pursued a Law degree at the University of Nairobi. He now holds four academic degrees.

In 2023, he revealed that each of the degrees represents a member of his family. Coming from a humble background where education was a rare opportunity, his family had agreed that he would be the one to attend school on their behalf.
He explained:
- Actuarial Science First Class Honours – dedicated to his mother
- Master’s in Architectural Science – for his sister
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) – for his brother
- Master of Laws (LLM) – for himself
“I wanted to pursue a degree for each person in our household. Since we were raised to believe education is the key to success, I decided to collect as many ‘keys’ as possible,” Owino said.
