Decomposed Body Found in 60-Foot Bamburi Borehole

Police are investigating after the decomposed body of a 60-year-old man was recovered from a borehole in the Kalima Upepo area of Bamburi, Mombasa County.

The man, later identified as James Tabulei, may have either accidentally fallen into the 60-foot borehole or been murdered and disposed of there.

Residents who used the borehole had noticed a foul smell coming from the water, prompting them to investigate. The body was discovered on April 8.

Mombasa County rescue officials responded to the scene and retrieved the remains, which showed no visible signs of injury at the time. The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.

In a separate incident in Nambale, Busia County, the body of 38-year-old Leonard Ouma Wabwire was discovered in a neighbor’s borehole two days after he was reported missing on April 6. Police and rescuers retrieved the body, which is now at the mortuary awaiting postmortem and investigation.

Meanwhile, in Juja, Kiambu County, a 15-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Thika River on Wednesday evening. He was with friends at the time. Though he was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. His body was taken to the mortuary for further examination and investigation.

In another case, the body of 67-year-old Hellen Nakaya Wasike was found in a stream in Navakholo, Kakamega County, after reportedly being swept away in Musagaa village. Locals had reported her missing and later found her body trapped among rocks in the stream, still clutching her handbag. The body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.

Police have launched investigations into all the incidents, with local authorities handling the respective cases.
