Motorists and residents in Nairobi should expect major traffic interruptions and increased security operations from Sunday, May 10, to Tuesday, May 12, during the Africa Forward Summit.
The high-level summit, co-hosted by President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron, will bring together about 30 heads of state, along with global innovators and business leaders to discuss regional and international challenges.

According to a statement released on May 8 by the Office of the Government Spokesperson, heavy movement of VIP convoys is expected along major roads including Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, and Kiambu Road.
The government also announced temporary closures of several roads within Nairobi’s Central Business District from midnight on May 11. These include City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, and Taifa Road, with access to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) restricted to accredited conference vehicles only.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid affected routes and follow instructions from traffic police throughout the summit period.
Speaking on May 9, Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohammud said security agencies have fully secured all venues linked to the event.
He added that both uniformed and undercover officers will be deployed across the city to maintain order and ensure smooth operations during the summit.
Mohammud noted that traffic disruptions are expected on key roads such as Mombasa Road, Thika Road, Kiambu Road, and Limuru Road, depending on VIP movements and security arrangements.
He also warned that access to some hotels and venues may be temporarily restricted as part of enhanced security measures, urging travellers, especially those heading to the airport, to plan their trips early—at least five hours in advance.

Residents were encouraged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue with normal activities while observing safety advisories.
The police boss further urged the public to stay away from restricted zones unless authorised and to report any suspicious activity to authorities.
He assured that security remains a top priority and said the country is on heightened alert during the summit period, with continuous surveillance in place to prevent any threats.
