The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Referees Committee, in collaboration with the Instructors’ Technical Group, has suspended three referees after reviewing their performances in recent SportPesa League matches.
In a statement, FKF said the disciplinary action followed a virtual meeting held on April 30, 2026, where officials examined match videos, assessors’ reports, observations from match commissioners and technical evaluations of officiating standards.

According to FKF, the referees failed to meet the expected standards required at the SportPesa League level.
The federation cited concerns over several aspects of officiating, including decision-making, enforcement of the Laws of the Game, match control, concentration, teamwork and coordination among officials.
As part of the sanctions, one referee has been suspended for three match rounds and relegated to the FKF National Super League pending further technical review.
The other two officials have each received two-match suspensions and have also been demoted to the National Super League.
FKF added that the referees will continue to undergo close assessment and monitoring by instructors, assessors and match commissioners. Their return to top-flight football will depend on their performance improvements and future technical evaluations.

The federation reiterated its commitment to upholding high refereeing standards, accountability and ongoing development of match officials across all competitions.
