Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has strongly denounced the assault of a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) by county inspectorate personnel, which resulted in the MCA sustaining a broken leg.
Boniface Maeke, representing Kalama Ward, was at the Machakos court in support of his colleague, Douglas Musyoka, who had been arrested earlier for alleged non-compliance with county building regulations.
Maeke was singled out and forcibly apprehended by over six men while outside the court, though he resisted boarding the county vehicles.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Governor Wavinya criticized the handling of the situation by the officers and called for an immediate investigation, urging accountability for those responsible. She emphasized her administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting the rights of all individuals, including leaders.
“I demand a comprehensive report within 7 days,” stated Wavinya.
She further urged all county enforcement officials to operate within the confines of the law and respect the rights of residents.
Similarly, Machakos County Assembly Speaker Anne Kiusya voiced her concerns, emphasizing the need to protect the well-being and rights of MCAs nationwide. Kiusya condemned such actions as undermining democracy and the rule of law.
Expressing solidarity with Maeke’s family as he recovers, Kiusya called for an immediate inquiry into the incident.
“We are steadfast in upholding democratic values and the rule of law,” she affirmed, urging all stakeholders to denounce violence and promote tolerance and respect within democratic institutions.
Following the assault, the MCA sustained a broken ankle and was taken to the hospital after recording a statement at the police station, escorted by the Machakos OCS.
