Mbae explained that 46-year-old Mulandi Mumbua was driving an unregistered HOWO lorry (dealer number KD 2167) from the Mombasa direction on the wrong side of the road, blocking oncoming traffic from Nairobi.

He collided head-on with a Mitsubishi FF matatu (registration KCG 846A) driven by 41-year-old David Muli, carrying 17 passengers.
“The matatu driver, a 32-year-old woman, and a 51-year-old man died instantly, while 15 others sustained various injuries,” Mbae said.

The injured were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were moved to the hospital mortuary for postmortem and identification. The wrecked vehicles were towed to Kyumbi Police Station for investigation.
