The Kenya Moja Alliance, a loosely organized group of MPs mostly from ODM, had been largely inactive following former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death. However, the outspoken emergence of his daughter, Winnie Odinga, has revitalized the caucus.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been seen as the de facto leader of the group, which also opposes President William Ruto’s second-term bid.

Other notable members include MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East, ODM), Caleb Amisi (Sabaoti, ODM), Obadia Barongo (Bomachoge Borabu, ODM), Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti, Wiper), Anthony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South, ODM), Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri, UDA), Clive Gisairo (Kitutu Masaba, ODM), Jack Omboka (Bumula, DAP-K), Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai, Ford Kenya), and Ojiambo Oundo (Funyula, ODM).
Following Raila’s passing, Winnie has emerged as a vocal advocate for reform within ODM. Her fiery speech at the party’s November 15, 2025, 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa challenged internal leadership decisions and criticized the appointment of her uncle, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, as Raila’s replacement.
She accused unnamed party figures of trying to “sell” ODM, emphasizing that the future of ODM’s alliances must be determined through the National Delegates’ Conference (NDC) and direct consultation with party members.
During the same event, Sifuna broke protocol by inviting Babu Owino to the stage, who declared himself capable of leading ODM in the future. MPs like Kibagendi stressed that the group’s main unifying goal is limiting Ruto to a single term, regardless of which presidential candidate they eventually support.
Babu Owino framed the group as a corrective force: “We’re not a third force — we are the force,” citing gaps in government accountability. Amisi described Kenya Moja as a generational movement, comparing it to historic transitions to self-rule and democratic leadership.

Supporters see Winnie’s involvement as a push for ODM to return to its pro-reform and democracy roots. Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir praised her for reinvigorating the party’s activist tradition.

Sifuna, however, cautioned party members against turning by-election campaigns into a platform for the 2027 presidential race, stressing that the focus must remain on winning seats in upcoming MCA and MP contests.
“The party will decide in due course how to approach 2027. By-election campaigns are not the place for personal agendas,” he stated.
Winnie Odinga’s rise and the Kenya Moja Alliance’s renewed activity signal growing internal debates within ODM as the party navigates its next political moves.
